Most of my job at the shop is diagnostics and electrical work. I am usually analyzing scan tool data, wiring diagrams, and voltage every day. These are some of the tools that I have in my hand at any given moment. They are not in any particular order.

1. Scan Tools

  • I use multiple scan tools throughout the day. My most used is the Snap-On Zeus, but unfortunately, you can not buy it on Amazon.

  • I also use the Autel AL629. Link here to the AL629. The AL629 is a small handheld scanner that can provide anybody with plenty of information to diagnose a vehicle.

  • The next scan tool I plan on purchasing is the Autel MS909. It is more expensive but comes with more features to accurately diagnose and test vehicles. Link here to the MS909.

2. Power Probe III

  • My go-to tool for measuring voltages is the Power Probe III. It is an amazing tool that allows you to check voltages and grounds on wires, which is important for diagnosing wiring issues. Another feature is that it can provide power or ground with the click of a button. Link to the Power Probe III here.

3. Rolling Cart and Magnet Trays

  • When taking apart a vehicle, I always have a place to neatly place my tools and the bolts. This place is my rolling cart and magnet trays. With them, I don’t have to worry about losing or misplacing anything from that vehicle. Not to be confused with my toolbox, the rolling cart is just a rolling platform. Link to the rolling cart here. Link to the magnet trays here.

4. Mini Ratchet and Bit Set

  • This kit is a life-saver. I use it all the time with interior work or places where a screwdriver does not have leverage. Link to the mini ratchet and bit set.

5. Knee Pad

  • Just this week, I had to do multiple jobs that required me to stand on my knees. This pad helps them not be injured in the process. Protect your knees! Link to the knee pad here.

6. 1/4 inch Ratchet Set

  • Same with the mini ratchet set, this ratchet set helps with many places that are a tight fit. Link to the 1/4 inch Ratchet Set here.

7. Wire Repair Tools

  • Most of my work requires some sort of wiring repair. Whether it is a broken wire, bare wire, or corroded wire, these are the tools I use to repair them.

  • Wire Repair Tools:

    • Wire Cutters. Link here.

    • Wire Strippers. Link here.

    • Wire Crimpers. Link here.

    • Butt Connectors. Link here.

    • Heat Shrink. Link here.

    • Electrical Tape. Link here.

    • Liquid Electrical Tape. Link here.

    • Wire Loom. Link here.

8. Flashlight and Holders

  • I can not explain enough how important it is to have a great flashlight. If you can not see what you are working on then there is no hope. Link to the flashlight I use here.
